Vacation in Sassnitz

To the place and the region ...
Sassnitz is a state -recognized health resort and is located in the east of the Jasmund peninsula in a so -called Liete, a wedge -shaped cut in the cliff. Forests and chalk cliffs frame the city, which has now grown out of the Liete. The most famous rock and a popular viewpoint is the Königsstuhl, which sits at 118 m above the Baltic Sea coast. The Stubnitz extends north of the city, a beech forest up to four kilometers wider and 7.5 kilometers long. For nature and hiking friends, the surrounding area still offers bogs, meadows and pastures. The nature reserve ""Wostevitzer Teiche"", a swampy depression under nature conservation, is located about seven kilometers southwest of Sassnitz. The city is also the starting point for the Jasmund National Park, which houses many different plant and animal species. In this way, the kingfisher can be observed on the clear rivers and streams.

To the history ...
The municipality of Sassnitz was only founded in 1906 by bringing the fishing villages of Crampas and Sassnitz together. The urge to relax of the city dwellers led to a rapid increase in visitors in the coastal places of the east and North Sea. But as early as the 1820s, families from the mainland traveled to a bathing stay. From 1871 the transport connection was gradually improved, first the road was expanded to Sassnitz, from 1883 railway lines were created to Bergen and Stralsund. In 1878 a lake connection was taken to Szczecin, the port followed 11 years later. And with the construction of the port, new sea connections to Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm, Trelleborg (the southernmost city of Sweden) and Klaipeda in Lithuania were opened. Due to the new transport options, the place quickly grew up, which led to further expanding the chalk industry, in addition to fish, fish products now also processed and tourism gained in importance. The formative appearance with the typical bath architecture and the ornate ornaments and balcony decorations testify to this time. In the 20th century, the pension houses were unfortunately left somewhat decay, but this was remedied with the thorough renovation of the city center in 1991. The buildings of the bath architecture were renovated and largely painted in uniform white. From 2000, the old town harbor was also included in the city renovation. A pedestrian suspension bridge connects the city center with the Sassnitz harbor.

Bathing opportunities

Baden and leisure
Beaches with good bathing quality can be found south of the Prorer Wiek. Starting from Mukran Sassnitz, the Mukran beach runs from the ferry port 5 km to Prora. It is about 40-50 m wide, goes very flat into the water, has hardly any current and has good water quality. The sand is very fine and white, stone -free and the wide dunes with beach drains complement the idyllic picture. FKK is possible near the port and further south you go to a mixed beach of nudist and textile. The Prora beach is also white and fine sand, 40 m wide, calm and provided with smaller sandbars in the shallow water.

In addition to bathing, Sassnitz offers even more. The suspension bridge that connects the city center with the Sassnitz port is a symbol of the city's openness to the cosmopolitan. At a height of 18 m you can see the hustle and bustle of the fishermen, which run for the catch and return to their home port in the evening. The ""Alaris Butterflin Spark Sassnitz"" is also worth a visit. With hundreds of freely flying butterflies and the tropical environment, it is a special experience.
