Vacation in Born am Darß

To the place and the region ...
The state -recognized resort of Born am Darß is a municipality on the Bodden coast of the Darß peninsula, which belongs to the ""Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft"" National Park. The municipal area includes almost the entire Darß peninsula including the northern tip, the ""Darßer Ort"". Here you can visit the Natureum, a branch of the German Sea Museum in Stralsund. The exhibition indicates the diversity, dynamics and in need of protection of nature on the Darß. The sea bays of the Bodstedter Boddens and the Saaler Boddens expand southeast and southwest of Born. As the first state-recognized resort of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, you make great effort to maintain nature.

To the history ...
The Darß was a separate island until the Middle Ages. A current of the Baltic Sea and Saaler Bodden, which is now covered, separated Darß from the mainland. The path ""on the electricity"" still testifies to the previous location. In the 17th century, the work of the fishermen was shaped by the term ""farmership"" when fishing did not bring enough income and many fishermen had to do additional agriculture.

Bathing opportunities

Baden and leisure
The 13 km western beach of the Darß peninsula on the Baltic Sea belongs to the municipality of Born. On the well-developed bike and hiking trails you can reach the unspoilt beach by bike in about 20 minutes. The journey leads through the Darßer Forest, which is limited on the coast by the so -called wind fuvenum. These trees bend the wind, but do not break and continue to grow. Large forest meadows, pagans, pine, spruce and beech stocks invite you to hikes and nature observations all year round. The many small ports in and around Born make the bodden accessible to everyone. There are passenger ships that go on excursions over the bodden company and sailing and surfing opportunities. Restaurants and restaurants are in the immediate vicinity and take care of the physical well -being. The low houses with the deep -drawn pipe roofs that shape the townscape are often only separated from the water by a meadow or reed. Surrounded by hedges and old trees, the houses seem to grow out of the landscape. The new houses also ensure that they fit harmoniously into the existing townscape. The artistically decorated ornaments of the Darß front doors and gables are a sight of the place.

Cultural Opportunities

The restaurants and the Born summer theater are the venues of many cabaret events. In the pipe -covered fishing church from 1935, concerts take place all year round on special occasions, such as Christmas and at the turn of the year. In 1996 the forest and hunting museum was opened that Ferdinand's life is devoted to Raelsfeld, which, with its reforestation, laid the foundation for large parts of the Darßer Forest, which today belongs to the National Park ""Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft"".
