Grosseto province

A modern city with a lot of green has grown around the picturesque old town with the almost completely preserved city wall. The Grossetos area also offers numerous scenic stimuli.

-
Region Grosseto

Center of the Maremma ...
Grosseto forms the center of the Maremma, a swamp area that used to be inhospitable and was haunted by malaria. Nevertheless, the area has an attractive landscape. Long, lonely beaches with pine forests and in the hinterland there are gentle hills with forests on the coast. Typical of the Maremma area is the wild boar and the lively tradition of butteros, the Italian cowboys. This area is also known for its excellent wines and olive oils, which can be bought from the locals in many places.

Beautiful old town with a lot of atmosphere ...
Grosseto is a modern city with a lot of green, which has grown around the old city center. Within the old walk -in city walls from the time of the Medici, which are still almost completely preserved, you will find a lot of atmosphere, small bars and restaurants with the kitchen of the Maremma. There are also the most important churches, museums and works of art to visit. The Archaeological Museum of Grosseto, located in the center of the old town, is one of the most important in Italy when it comes to the Etruscan era. It is worth spending a day with tours in Grosseto, maybe also combined with a stroll through the shops in the old town or a visit to the market (Thursday 9: 00-13: 00, Porta Vecchia). And of course, many cultural events are also offered in Grosseto, especially in summer. Music from classical to jazz to pop, theater performances and art exhibitions. The region is full of ancient traditions that are reflected in the numerous churches, museums and historical villages. This area is also known for its excellent wines and olive oils, which you can buy in many places from the locals or in the many wine bars and small shops. You can inform yourself more precisely in the Grosseto tourist office near the train station.

Bathing beaches at Grosseto
Marina The Grosseto is a modern seaside resort with a long sandy beach that ranges from Castiglione della Pescaia (a harbor town worth seeing) to Principina a Mare. This seaside resort is a little touristy, bathing establishments can be found here in a plenty of selection.

Or even better - the beaches of the Uccellina park south of Principina Mare: fine sandy beaches with pine trees in the background. Pure nature! Here you can also take wonderful hikes by the sea outside the bathing season.

Roselle
About 8 km from Grosseto towards Siena are the archaeological excavations of Roselle, sometimes also called the ""Etruscan Pompeii"". There are not only remnants of the Roman city complex, but also Etruscan and medieval city remains. Roselle - A ""must"" for every archaeologically interested Tuscany visitor.

Uccellina-Naturpark
This Maremma-Naturpark, one of the first Tuscan nature parks, approx. 9000 hectares in size, extends between Principina a Mare, Talamone and the Uccellina Mountains. Following signposted hiking trails, you can watch free-living horses or Maremma Rinder in the Ombrone-Delta, at Principina a Mare the versatile flora and fauna of the swamp landscape of the Maremma or explore the untouched nature of the Macchia Mediterranea in the Uccellina Mountains. From June to the end of September, however, only guided tours are possible."
