Etruskische Riviera

Named after numerous finds from the Etruscan period, the beautiful Etruscan Riviera can be found in Tuscany. There are medieval villages between gentle hills and blue sea.

Etruskische Riviera

Flat beaches, flowering islands, charming hinterland ...
Between Piombino and Orbetello in the center of the Etruscan Riviera there are wonderful flat sandy beaches that are particularly suitable for families. The islands of Elba, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo and Giglio are visible from the coast, which are also wonderful for an excursion. The Isola del Giglio, the lily island, which lives up to its name in the summer and inspires with its blooms, is particularly worth mentioning. A large part of the Etruscan Riviera is under nature conservation and, thanks to its water quality, is also ideal for diving, fishing and photography. The foothills of the Tuscan mountains form the hinterland of the Etruscan Riviera. Here there are many beautiful country houses in the typical landscape of Tuscany, which are also often offered as holiday accommodations. Many Etruscan graves, locks, monasteries and picturesque towns, such as the landscape, very attractive Volterra, are waiting to be explored. Here in the hinterland you will find peace and relaxation in the middle of vineyards and olive groves. Excellent wines and olive oils come from here. The wonderful nature with its variety of plants and animals is best admired during an extensive hiking.

The Etruscans ...
have loved this country very much, a country in which they lived, worked and driven their trade. The Necropolis of Baratti, near the village of Populonia - the only Necropolis that was built up on the sea - shows the harmonious relationship that the Etrusks maintained with nature. In the archaeological park of Baratti populonia, Etruscan finds are cared for with care, just like in the museums of Rosignano and Cecina as well as in the archaeological areas in Vada and Cecina. On this coast, the Etrusken won and edited the metal and made precious pieces. A path at the mineral archeological park of San Silvestro in Campiglia shows us the way metal was edited in all its different phases and techniques, from Etruscan times to the Middle Ages. It is medieval mining in the open air.

San Vincenzo ... is a seaside resort that is located directly on the Tuscan coast. From here you can start excursions into the hinterland and still don't have to do without swimming in the sea. There are enough tourist facilities, you can rent bicycles anywhere, there is a long promenade with restaurants, shops, pizzerias and some hotels of different categories. An outstanding nightlife cannot be found here in midsummer. There are a few bars along the sports boat harbor, in which the residents of the place also meet. There you can end the evening wonderfully. The beach runs very clean along the whole town. Some areas are chargeable. But you always find enough free beach in between, where it is also easy to bathe. San Vinzenco is recommended for a stop on the way.

Excursion recommendation

Capraia
A small island of the Tuscan archipelago, north of the island of Elba and east of Capo Corso. Worth seeing are the romantic bays and the old watchtowers, in which seagulls nest today. The ""Cala Rossa"", remains of a rock crater - red like the fire is particularly beautiful.

Cecina
was created in the second half of the 8th century on the left side of the flow of the same name. Powerful tourist port. Beautiful pine forests that reach the sea.

The island of Elba
Always enchanted her visitors with their indescribable natural beauty and its diverse landscape sections. Napoleon, probably the most prominent ""visitor"", left his unforgettable traces here during his 285 days.

Florence
Italy - or maybe even worldwide, most unique city. With over fifty museums, countless streets, squares, palaces, old churches and artistically designed gardens, this city is not only an absolute must for art lovers and historians.

Livorno
Provincial capital and the second most important city in Tuscany. Important port for cruise ships and ferry traffic to Sardinia and Corsica. Seat of the naval academy.

Massa Marittima
From Piazza Garibaldi you have a wonderful view of the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral. World -famous for the annual ""Palio del Girifalco"" (crossbow shooting).

Siena
is one of the most beautiful Tuscan cities; Famous Piazza del Campo, where the well -known ""Palio"" (horse racing) takes place in August.
