Ostseebad Wustrow

To the place and the region ...
Wustrow is an Baltic Sea resort on Fischland. The former Fischer and Seefahrerdorf is located in the immediate vicinity of the narrowest point of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. The only 100 m wide area is south of the Permine, a bay of the Saaler Bodden. The northern neighbor is the artist village of Ahrenshoop and in the south is the Baltic Sea resort of Dierhagen. Further in the north of the Darß peninsula, the ""Darßer Wald"" nature park extends as part of the ""Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft"" National Park. A widely branched network of path leads cyclists or hikers through the original forest.

To the history ...
Wustrow was first mentioned in a gift certificate Pope Gregors IX. To the Cistercian monastery Dünamünde in 1235. Through the centuries, the place was shaped by fishing and sea shipping. In 1856, the first bathrooms were set up because the place of recreation was recognized. However, the local fishermen and seafarers had no interest in the heyday of sailing shipping. And so the developing engine shipping meant a fresh start for the seaside resort, since sailing shipping as the most important industry was no longer portable. A non -profit association for the promotion of tourism, which was founded in 1880, was able to open the first season in 1881 after one year of work and ended with over 100 guests. The first step was taken. Since then, many holiday homes and hotels have been created as well as a pier.

Bathing opportunities

Baden and leisure
The long Baltic Sea edge invites you to swim, while at the Saaler Bodden a port for boat trips is the ideal starting point. From here, the zeesen boats, former fishing boats, start excursions on the bodden. For experienced surfers, the Baltic Sea offers a fantastic area with very good wind conditions and the Saaler Bodden is particularly suitable for beginners. The wide areas of the bodden are also popular with anglers, sailors and rowers. However, if you prefer to stay dry, you can explore the landscape on foot, with inline skates, bicycles or high. There are rental options in every place. Sights include the church, which was completed in 1873, from the high tower of which one has an excellent view. The Bäderstraße, which is located on the Baltic Sea side, houses a group of sculptures as a new landmark, with the title ""The Gate to the Year 2000"" by artists in the region. The listed district of Barnstorf offers North German artists in an old barn for their exhibitions.

Cultural Opportunities

Organ concerts take place in the church regularly in summer and the Fischlandhaus, a 200 year old former captain's house, offers readings, cabaret and changing exhibitions all year round on local historical topics. Near the Wustrow pier, a summer cinema will be opened in May every year, which can be converted into a open -air stage in just a few simple steps. The cabaret theater inspires young and old with selected pieces and the rustic atmosphere.

Service

For health
The oxygen-rich and salty sea air have a positive effect on skin and respiratory diseases. In addition, there are several facilities in which you can be pampered. And if it is too cold for the beach, there are swimming pools and saunas in many nearby places.

For excursions
The artist village of Ahrenshoop north of Wustrow offers itself for excursions to the area. Furthermore, tours are worthwhile for the nature park center ""Darßer Arche"" in Wieck, which informs about the special features and relationships of the lush flora and fauna in the ""Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft"" national park. In the direction of the mainland you can visit the amber town of Ribnitz-Damgarten, Barth or the Boddenort Pruchen with its natural bodden landscape. In just about 40 minutes by car by car you can reach the Marlow bird park in Northern Western Pomerania. In the large park you can observe the colorful bird variety from all continents. There is a lot to see from the large species of birds, such as the bouquet to the little ones, such as the zebra finch. Stralsund can be reached at the same distance and thus the largest natural history museum in Northern Germany, the German Sea Museum. It is housed in an early Gothic monastery church and houses a fascinating variety of native and tropical sea animals in 45 aquariums.
